A great Maasai Mara safari is not just about the wildlife; it is also about what keeps you alive and energized – THE FOOD.
You are probably wondering with Losokwan Camp being located in such a remote area, what should you expect in terms of food.
Well, with a fully equipped kitchen and professional chefs, Losokwan ensures the guests have tastefully prepared appetizing dishes of many varieties. The menu combines European, African and Asian dishes, made with the abundance of Kenyan fresh produce with elements from our own organic garden to accentuate flavor.
Guests may enjoy a bush breakfast which is served just after the morning game drive. The Mara River is a 10-15-minute drive from camp where several hundred hippos and a few large crocodiles reside. We do set up bush breakfasts under shade overlooking the hippo pools on the river after the morning drive as a pit-stop before you continue on your game drive. We can, alternatively set up breakfast in a treed bush with a central clearing referred to as “westminster” away from the beaten track and surrounded by the sounds of the bush rather than the plains.
Lunch can be enjoyed on a private tented suite’s deck, by the lounge area, inside the dining tent or best of all as a picnic lunch in the shade of an acacia tree in the middle of nowhere for guests who are on a full day excursion.
What about dinner?
Dinner is Table D’Hôte and can be enjoyed under Africa’s star lit sky or the dining tent or at our camp manager’s special bush dinner site where chefs barbecue and grill juicy steaks to perfection as the Maasai warriors entertain the guests. For couples, we have cozy candlelit dinners for 2 set at the comfort of your tent deck.
Do not forget the afternoon tea or freshly brewed Kenyan coffee with a scone or some cookies just before the game drives.
We also have a selection of drinks to choose from at our fully-stocked bar.
*We welcome guests with special dietary requirements/preferences and we advise you to inform the management in advance to cater to your needs.
